Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called a meeting of revenue officials to conduct a survey examining the social and economic backwardness of the Maratha community within one week. The survey is important for the curative petition on the Maratha quota before the Supreme Court. The last survey conducted by the Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission found the Maratha community to be socially, economically, and educationally backward. In May 2021, the Supreme Court struck down the Maratha quota, exceeding the 50% reservation ceiling. The Maharashtra government plans to file a curative petition and conduct a new survey.
