On Tuesday, the Bombay high court granted City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) permission to chop 3728 mangroves for the construction of the 5.8 kilometer Ulwe coastal road, which will connect the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) to Navi Mumbai and the planned Navi Mumbai International Airport. According to CIDCO's appeal, on March 2, 2019, the state environment impact assessment authority granted coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance with the condition that appropriate forest clearance be obtained for the diversion of more than 32 hectares of forest land.
