
Tamil Nadu higher education minister K P Anbalgan on Friday declared that Anna University does not require Institute of Eminence (IoE) status as it posed a threat to the existing 69% reservation policy of the state. With Anna University vice-chancellor M K Surappa independently approaching the Centre for the IoE status, the issue involving the state’s premiere engineering institution has snowballed into a major controversy. Last week, Surappa, in a letter to the MHRD, said the university had its own means to generate revenue of Rs 1,570 crore for five years as required for the IoE status.
